THE ASSOCIATION shall be known as:- “THE CITY OF LONDON FREEMEN ASSOCIATION OF SUSSEX”

THE AIMS are to encourage and support the City of London functions and charities, also foster and defend the traditions and citizenship of the City of London by Freemen thereof residing in Sussex.

MEMBERSHIP shall be open to all Freemen of the City of London upon written application and upon payment of any fee from time to time set to accompany such applications, who reside or who have a place of business within an area broadly defined by the Ancient Kingdom of the South Saxons.

MANAGEMENT the management of the Association shall be vested in an Executive Committee elected at the Annual General Meeting. The Executive Committee Comprise the following:- a) The Chairman, b) Deputy Chairman, c) Assistant chairman/Almoner, d) Clerk to the Association, e) Treasurer to the Association, f) Chairman of the Social Committee, g) Three member Representatives, h) All Past Chairman.
Members eligible to hold the Office of Chairman must have served a minimum of two years on the Executive Committee. At meetings of the Executive Committee five members shall form a quorum.
The Executive Committee shall have the power to co-opt from within the membership, an additional two members for a specified purpose and for a period expiring at the following Annual General Meeting, to be held in November

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP the Executive Committee shall have the power to invite to Honorary Membership any Freemen of the City of London not residing or having a place of business in Sussex, who, in the opinion of the Committee, has rendered service to the Association. The name of every person proposed for Honorary Membership shall be placed before the Membership at the Annual General Meeting and elected by a show of hands. The number of Honorary Members shall not at any time exceed five (5).

SOCIAL CHAIRMAN in carrying out the Office will be responsible for forming a Social Sub-Committee, to comprise the Social Chairman as Chairman, the Treasurer and as many Members as the Social Chairman from time to time may require in order to carry out the programme of social activities for the benefit of the Members and their Guests. The date, venue and programme for the Annual Banquet to be no later than early October to be approved by the Executive Committee.

THE ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION shall be due on the 1 st of November of each year, so that the financial year will commence on the 1 November and end on the 30 October, and in a sum as the Executive Committee from time to time may decide. Where a husband and wife are both qualified for membership a single annual subscription in respect of both shall be in the same sum.

EXCLUSION any member whose subscription remains unpaid for twenty four (24) months shall automatically be excluded.

THAT AN ACCOUNT be kept at such banks as the Executive Committee may determine in the name of the Association and that the orders for this purpose be signed by the Clerk and Treasurer acting together.

MEMBERSHIP ROLL to be kept by the Clerk to the Association.

CHARITIES to support the aims of By-Law 2. The Chairman will have made available from the funds of the Association an annual sum of money to donate to Charities, which the Chairman feels are deserving of support, of which no less than 50% of the total sum be allocated to a Charity associated with the City of London.

NONE OF THESE BY-LAWS shall be repealed varied or void except by resolution at an Annual General Meeting and upon Notice of Motion given to all Members fifteen days prior to such Meeting detailing the proposed alterations.
